Claire purchased her land on Mountain Drive in May of 1976 and poured the foundation in June of 1977. She has lived there all 32 years. "I'm not attached to the things I lost," she said, "I'm attached to the dirt." She plans rebuild as soon as she is able. Until that day, "I am community and contribution," she states, "That's who I am." She seems to sum up the ethos of the mountain in the wake of this fire. Standing under a tremendous fig tree she makes one feel as if this natural disaster is everyone's to shoulder and everyone's to transform. Her son Adam adds, "Well, a lot of us voted for change. And we got it."
